C. Richard (Rick) Shamel, Jr.
Senior Counsel
Rick was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and has been a resident of Florida since 1968. In college, he majored in American history and political science. Rick served in the Naval Air Reserve during the Vietnam War. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law and subsequently became a reserve officer in the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps.
Rick began his civilian legal career as an associate at a Pompano Beach, Florida law firm. One of his partners was Earl Faircloth, a former Attorney General of Florida. During this period, Rick was involved in various legal matters exposing him to almost every area of law, from business matters, marital matters, estate planning/administration, and legal problems involving senior Floridians. Rick became a sole practitioner, in 1980 focusing his practice on estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianship, and assisting senior Floridians and their families with solving legal challenges associated with growing older.
Rick joined The Mattar Firm because he is committed to easing the legal process for his clients and their families. Whether local or distant, Rick guides his clients with empathy in administering the financial and health care of their deceased, elderly, or disabled loved ones.
Rick is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida.
When he is not working, Rick enjoys spending time with his family, creating jewelry art, photography, and exploring the beauty of nature’s wonders.
